Digital Humanities is a new and challenging discipline, offering opportunities to experience and research heritage (built environment). On June 21st KNOB (Koninklijke Nederlandse Oudheidkundige Bond), 4TU.Bouw and CLICKNL organize workshops and a seminar to make a roadmap for virtual and augmented reality in the historical built environment.

Midsummer day (05.20 – 22.04 h)
Join the interactive workshops. Experiment with techniques of virtual reality. Listen to lectures. And join the debates at this longest day of the year. At dawn we’d like to have developed a number of concepts to prove that virtual reality and heritage (built environment) embrace each other.

Workshops (09.00 – 18.00 h), including lunch
Multidisciplinary teams develop ideas, strategies, scenarios and visions for combinations of VR/AR techniques and heritage (built environment). Each team will be assisted by a moderator. The municipality of Delft will be the subject of investigation. It’s rich history and heritage, techbased identity, economy of tourism and ‘early adopting’ student population presents an array of opportunities to explore and exploit VR/AR tech applications.

Pre-existing knowledge on VR/AR technology is not specifically required. An open-minded attitude and the expertise of all participants combined, will provide a fruitful base for the development of a wide range of ideas on the implementation of VR/AR technology.

Participants: variety of disciplines (backgrounds?) like architecture , urbanism, heritage, (VR) tech, municipality, GIS, tourism.
Maximum group size: 48 participants (6 teams with a maximum of 8 participants each)

Seminar (17.00 – 22.00 h), including dinner
The seminar starts with a presentation of the results of the workshops. And will explore the ambitions and potential of VR/AR technology for heritage during the walking dinner, followed by presentations on experiences, ambitions and debates.
