Samira Boon is a textile architect. After finishing her master’s at TU Delft and Tokyo University of Technology, she lived in Japan for four years, where she started her design studio in 2004. As an expert in the material properties of fibers and textiles, the studio’s adaptive and interactive structures enhance the use and experience of spaces, acoustics, climate regulation and energy efficiency. In collaboration with various institutions, such as HvA, VU, Tokyo University, NEWTEXECO network and with support of numerous grands, e.g. NWO, MIT, research on materials, technology and applications lead to innovative market implementations. The 3D-origami textile series Archi Folds was honored with the 2024 Architizer Award in the Innovation category, while BioFold received recognition in the Acoustics category.
