The Medica exhibition; the world's largest medical trade fair was held this year in Düsseldorf between 16-19 November 2015. This health fair consisted of a trade section, in which companies from around the world presented their products for the medical market. In the halls, the focus was mainly on hospital supplies, hospital equipment and technological innovations. Modint and CLICKNL | Next Fashion went looking for interesting companies, networks and (technological) innovations that could be useful for the textile industry, including smart textiles and wearable technology. Interesting topics that were discussed at the fair were: connected healthcare systems, robotics and tele-health, mobile health, internet of things in healthcare. In addition, a number of presentations were given about wearable technology in clothing (wearables). The overall impression is that even within the medical market the wearable technology isn't more advanced in comparison to the other markets. Furthermore, several companies say that the sportswear industry will be able to develop wearables earlier and faster since the products will fit the demands of the industry more easily.
