Exploring clothing consumption through design fiction

  • CIRCULAR SOCIETY

  • DISCUSSION

In this discussion group, participants will be triggered to think of dynamics of clothing consumption on the basis of six provocative graphic pieces. These fictional advertisements illustrate "smart wardrobe" services especially designed for this purpose. Together we will reflect on everyday clothing consumption and on the complexity of the wardrobe as a system. The outcomes may be used as findings of the final phase of my PhD research (AUAS/VU Amsterdam).

Irene Maldini

Irene Maldini is a researcher at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Fashion Research and Technology) and a PhD candidate at VU University Amsterdam. Her research explores the possibility of reducing the volumes of clothing produced and consumed through personalization and production on demand. This possibility is examined critically through three different perspectives: a fashion history and theory approach, an empirical approach, and a research-through-design approach. This discussion group is part of the third and last phase of this research.
