Report first Meet UPPS

To share inspiring examples and to explain the call for proposals, FieldLab UPPS organized a MeetUPPS. Companies and experts from different fields of the UPPS were welcomed at the faculty of industrial design engineering for a tour and an afternoon of pitches. After the tour Toon Huysmans opened the MeetUPPS with his presentation on how the Fieldlab looks at UPPS and what it has to offer.

The afternoon began with four pitches that were very close to each other. Personalized knitwaer.com, Strikks, Knit-o-mat and ‘the girl and the machine’ outlined their various challenges in personalized and mass-produced knitwear. "Would it be possible to show the consumer a virtual mirror which shows how clothes will look?" and "How do you automatically translate a 3D model of a person into information that a producer can use".

Jeroen Coenders of White Lioness, who offers something similar in the form of Packhunt.io, offered insight on the first question. He advised the audience not to focus on technology, but on what would be the best product they could think of, most of the coding is already done.

Other pitches came for Wiebe ten Kaaten, who was working on digitally produced foot prostheses, Crossguard, who had brought a sword to demonstrate their protective gloves and Paul Verschagen, a tailor who told about how he developed a way to do what he did on hit kitchen table digitally.

Finally, we should not forget Joost Alferink and Rens Tap. Joost Alferink of '3D About Me' briefly demonstrated how they scan feet and explained that the a4 is really only necessary for the dimensions and Rens Tap explained how Modint with 'NL Next Fashion and Textiles' attempts to connect innovative textile parties.
At the end of the afternoon the pitches were discussed under the enjoyment of drinks.
