Open | Demand-driven Research by Consortia – XL (KIC)

The KIC call ‘Demand-driven Research by Consortia – XL’ is now open for proposals. This call targets large public-private consortia aiming to conduct research into innovations with societal impact. Applicants have considerable scope to shape the content of their proposal in close collaboration with public and private partners.

This call aligns with the Dutch government’s mission-driven innovation policy. Each proposal must therefore relate to one of the six Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIAs). Consortium partners play a crucial role throughout the process: in formulating the research question (co-design), in conducting the research (co-creation), and in applying the outcomes (co-production). This enables the development and implementation of solutions that serve the needs of the economy, society and the planet.

Deadlines and funding
Submission of a pre-proposal is mandatory. The deadlines are:

  • Pre-proposal: Tuesday 10 March 2026, 14:00 CET
  • Full proposal: Thursday 12 November 2026, 14:00 CET

Per proposal, between €1,400,000 and €7,000,000 in NWO funding can be requested. NWO will fund 50–70% of the total project budget. At least 30% must be covered by co-funding, of which at least half must be private.
