Sowing the Seeds of Change
The Dutch pop music ecosystem faces structural weaknesses that hinder its adaptability and long-term resilience. Precarious working conditions and fragile earning models have created a vulnerable foundation, while the sector is simultaneously confronted with growing transformational challenges. To become future-proof, a more resilient system is essential.
This project explores how the Dutch music ecosystem can transform into a sector that is better equipped to cope with change and crises. Researchers applied a systemic approach, focusing on identifying elements within the system with high transformative potential: the so-called Seeds of Change. These are initiatives – economic, social, technological, artistic, or a combination thereof – that are currently marginal but hold great promise for structural transformation.
By mapping, activating, and strengthening these initiatives, the project contributes to building greater resilience across the sector. In doing so, it also lays the groundwork for enhancing the societal earning capacity (maatschappelijk verdienvermogen) of the Dutch music ecosystem.
