Urban highways and spatial development

The innovation acceleration research experiment “Urban Highways & Spatial Development” focuses on social and economic value creation for promising locations near busy highways within highly compacted urban environments.

The overarching problem and question for the experiment is as follows:

How can a value-based integral and innovative approach to - problematic or promising - locations near urban highways, with the help of development-oriented design research, innovative steering methods and financing possibilities, result in a development perspective that leads to policy agendas or public and private willingness to invest for the implementation of improving and expanding the existing living environment and improving urban accessibility? How can the lessons from this contribute to a broader application of this integrated and innovative approach for other locations and regions?

The ambition is to bring together relevant parties from the triple helix (or collaboration between knowledge institutions, the creative industry and government) in a setting that is as free as possible from policy and administrative pressure. Where appropriate and desirable, this collaboration will be expanded to a quadruple-helix setting (or collaboration between knowledge institutions, business, citizens and government) by including representatives of residents.

€50,000 will be used as a PPP programme allowance.
