Smart Integrated Value- and Design-driven Development of the Living Environment (SIWOOL)
The transition to a circular construction economy plays a crucial role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Preventing demolition and making existing real estate, outdoor spaces, and infrastructure more sustainable are the most effective ways to achieve these goals. This project contributes to this by developing a smart, integrated, and values-driven design approach.
The main research question is: How can an integrated design method be developed that combines artificial intelligence (AI), parametric modeling, and human design, so that values-driven decisions, broad stakeholder involvement, and a sustainable, circular transformation of the built environment are enabled throughout the entire process of planning development and management?
The project team will achieve this by establishing (at least) three design labs in which a multidisciplinary team of spatial designers, AI experts, specialized modelers, and participation professionals will jointly conduct design research. This research is based on values and supported by an innovative, new approach.
