Dutch Research Agenda

NWA - Urbiquay

This call for proposals calls on knowledge institutions and other interested parties to develop research projects aimed at knowledge gaps related to the development of sustainable solutions for technical and process challenges related to the restoration, renewal and management of bridges and quay walls in a complex urban context.

In this programme, knowledge about methods, processes and techniques is developed that can be made generic and therefore also applicable in other contexts (other locations, circumstances, problems, other municipalities). First of all for the short term assignments concerning the securing, repair and renewal of bridges and quay walls, but linked to the ambition to arrive at sustainable future-proof solutions and a shared public-private responsibility, against the background of urban liveability.

The Urbiquay programme aims to contribute to and deliver concrete knowledge for the existing Bridges and Quay Walls program of the Municipality of Amsterdam, while at the same time contributing to the transferability of that knowledge to other cities or areas of application. This research program brings together the objectives around the themes of renewal, lifespan extension, monitoring and sensoring, testing bridges and quay walls and related urban logistics.
