Call NWO: Knowledge development and innovation in cities

The latest round of NWO's VerDuS SURF Pop Up is now open! The instrument is meant for small projects that contribute to knowledge development and innovation and cities and urban areas. Researchers can ask for financing for small, short term projects on behalf of a partnership. The deadline for applications is 4 April 2019.

VerDuS SURF Pop Up plays into the need for knowledge about new developments in urban areas and ad hoc questions within the SURF issues. The knowledge development with VerDuS SURF ties into five societal challenges within the intersections of space, living, accessibility, economy and governance.

Demands in the area of the societal challenges formulated in the program “Living and built environment” and “Economy” and the complex spatial cohesion in the developments of these societal challenges are especially appreciated. An application can be aimed at innovative scientific research, but the financing can also be used to transfer knowledge, development of a tool or making the research applicable in another way. Researchers can apply for funding on behalf of a partnership with at least one knowledge institution and one public or private partner for small, short term projects.

For whom
Applications can be submitted on behalf of a partnership with at least one researcher from the knowledge institutions listed below (the main applicant) and at least one public or private partner. Researchers of the following knowledge institutions can submit applications:
• Dutch universities;
• KNAW and NWO institutes;
• Universities of applied sciences;
• TO2-institutions (including TNO).

Public or private parties cannot submit their own application, but they can be part of a partnership.
