Exploratory study | Knowledge infrastructure power of design

The Dutch Design Foundation and CLICKNL have launched an exploratory study to examine how knowledge about the application of design power can be better developed, connected, and utilized to address societal challenges. The study is being conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science (OCW).

The Netherlands faces major societal challenges, such as the energy transition, the housing crisis, the future of healthcare, digitization, and broad prosperity. The Power of Design plays an increasingly important role in addressing these challenges. Design-based methodologies help to take an integrated approach to complex issues, bring together different perspectives, and develop innovative solutions that align with real-world practice and people’s needs.

A great deal of knowledge and experience is now available regarding the application of design power. However, this knowledge is scattered across various organizations, sectors, programs, and networks. As a result, it is not always easy to find or access for policymakers, public organizations, researchers, designers, and other professionals working on societal transitions.

Share your thoughts

A robust knowledge infrastructure can only be created if it is grounded in real-world practice. That is why, as part of this exploratory study, we will be engaging in dialogue with organizations and professionals who work with or conduct research on the power of design, societal transitions, and knowledge development.
