Dream a Little: on AI and creative practices
What does generative AI mean for artists, designers, researchers, and creative makers? That question is at the heart of Dream a Little, a new publication from the Centre of Expertise Creative Innovation (CoE CI). The publication brings together personal observations, critical essays, and artistic perspectives from creators affiliated with five educational institutions in Amsterdam.
The contributions show how creative makers relate to a technology that increasingly influences how we work, create, and live together. From hands-on experiments to philosophical reflections, together they paint a multifaceted picture of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool, as a system, as a promise, and as a risk.
Researcher and artist Kim Spierenburg, for instance, writes about how AI contributes to inclusivity in the arts and argues for a critical examination of resistance to the use of AI. Lecturer Koos Zwaan places the rise of AI within a broader historical context of technological innovation in the music industry, while emphasizing that the value of AI lies not in the technology itself, but in how creators utilize it.
Dream a Little is thus not only a publication about AI, but also an invitation to reimagine technology: from the perspective of public values, artistic research, and collective responsibility.
