KIC - Energy transition & sustainability

KIC Wind and solar Energy

The Climate Agreement sets us the enormous task of working towards a completely CO2-free electricity system by 2050. In order to make this transition possible, it is imperative that we radically renew and make our energy system more sustainable. Wind and solar energy will play an important role for the Netherlands. However, the transition to a large share of wind and solar energy is only possible with societal support, substantial cost reductions and increased efficiency. The growth of the share of wind and solar energy also comes with an increasing circularity issue.

Purpose and objectives
The call for proposals ‘Innovations for wind and solar energy’ aims to contribute to the energy transition by stimulating research into (1) efficiency and cost reduction and (2) circular design of materials, systems and processes for wind and solar energy. The social task is an integral part of both.

Connection with the Creative Industries
In this call, the creative industry can use its methods to work on new business models and the optimal organisation and design of circular value chains based on the social task.

A number of Key Enabling Methodologies categories can be further developed via this call:

System change
Behaviour and Empowerment
Value creation and upscaling
Participation and co-creation
Vision and imagination
