SDS #16 Collective impact

On Wednesday, December 6, Social Design Showdown will host its last event of the year. You want to be there! This time at Spaces Hofplein in Rotterdam they are talking about the 'collective impact' of social designers. The organization is pleased to have Renske Bouwknegt (Ideate) and Nynke Tromp (TU Delft) as co-hosts of this edition.

Today we face social problems that call for systemic change. Climate change, growing poverty, lifestyle diseases - in all these cases, the systems from which we confront them are often part of the problem. Increasingly, therefore, we talk of transitions being necessary. But achieving a transition is an impossible task for a single designer. Moreover, a transition requires more than what design practice can bring.

In this session, you will explore how we can think more strategically about the role of (social) design in accelerating system change. What if we joined forces on an issue? Where are our different (design) practices complementary? And what do we need to collectively make an impact? Together you'll engage in a conversation about collaborating, competing, referring and building on each other, and we'll take a first step toward professionalizing our discipline.
