Networking Event
Exceed - Expedition
On Thursday September 26, we will organise the national Exceed networking event. Exceed is the expertise network around experimental environments. It will be a day for the entire Exceed network and for newly interested parties.
We will be guests in and around Rotterdam for the day. The day consists of three parts: in the morning, we snoop around Rotterdam's Urban Leisure and Tourism Lab. After lunch, we catch up as a network on key developments in politics, research and policy. In the afternoon, we will visit the historic shipyard RDM, an experimental location that stimulates innovation based on entrepreneurship.
The programme:
9.45 - Meeting up at Rotterdam Centraal.
The bus leaves from the Kiss and Ride at Rotterdam Centraal (Conradstraat 22).
10.00 - Departure for Urban Leisure & Tourism Lab.
10.30 - 12.00 Look behind the scenes at the Urban Leisure & Tourism Lab.
In the morning, we will visit the Urban Leisure and Tourism Lab at Zuidplein. The ULTL is a city lab with locations in several cities where all kinds of parties (researchers, businesses, governments, residents and students from Inholland) work together on solutions to urban challenges. Such as safety perception, circularity and sustainable tourism. We will get an inside look and perhaps a look into the neighbourhood, and discuss what the opportunities and threats are in setting up and running a lab like the ULTL.
Location: Zuidplein 54, Rotterdam
The bus leaves from this parking (2 min walking distance from ULTL).
12.30 - 13.00 Lunch
Location: De Doelen (studio 8, entrance at the Karel Doormanstraat 235), Schouwburgplein 50, near Rotterdam Centraal.
13.00 - 14.30 Main programme which will focus on the latest relevant developments in politics, research and practice for experimental environments.
The exact programme will follow, but you can expect attention will be paid to the outcomes of the NWO call on experimental environments, and the state of the art of living labs, as presented in the book to be published later in 2024 by lecturer platform Network Applied Design Research (NADR).
Location: De Doelen (studio 8, entrance at the Karel Doormanstraat 235), Schouwburgplein 50, near Rotterdam Centraal.
14:30 - Departure for the RDM Loft.
The bus leaves from the Kiss and Ride at Rotterdam Centraal (Conradstraat 22).
15.00 - 16.30 Visit to RDM.
During the afternoon we will be guests at RDM. The historic shipyard, now an icon for innovative activity, was brought to life in 2009. For years it housed the RDM Makerspace, a lab environment run as a business. Since then, the Makerspace has changed into RDM Next and, as an ecosystem of innovative businesses, the area has become an integral part of Rotterdam. Jurjen Lengkeek, co-founder of the Makerspace and Next, shares the secrets of RDM, his most important lessons learned, and always does so from an entrepreneurial perspective. Because a lab without a business case has no future.
Location: RDM Loft, Scheepsbouwweg 8-Loft, Rotterdam. For also here for directions.
__16:30 - Departure for Rotterdam Central Station
The bus leaves from the parking Heijplaatstraat.
17.00 - Arrival at Rotterdam Central Station
