Call 1 | Power of Design & Transitions

__How can we better enable creative professionals to tackle societal challenges and accelerate transitions? Round 1 of the Power of Design & Transitions program has room for five projects that develop knowledge and methods to improve design for transitions.

Whether it concerns social design, game development, or architecture, more knowledge and methods are needed to be able to design effectively for transitions. Examples include knowledge about public values and the inclusive society, methods for designing a healthy living environment, and the use of technology to support sustainable behavior. Knowledge and methods that are needed in design practice must be developed and tested.

Unique opportunity

The Power of Design & Transitions program offers creative professionals, knowledge institutions, and organizations operating around a social challenge the unique opportunity to conduct research as equal partners. In this design-based research, practical questions and the scientific approach will go hand in hand. Knowledge and methods will be developed that are of direct value for better design for transitions. In addition, we will learn about the use of design power in addressing societal challenges.

€3,250,000 was available for the first call for proposals. This has enabled five complementary collaborative projects to be launched in 2025, each of which has received a maximum grant of €650,000.

Project team & role assignment

A project team includes at least

  • a knowledge institution (college, university or TO2),
  • three creative industry companies (SMEs),
  • one private company and
  • there is always a problem owner connected.

These teammembers act as equal partners in the design and execution of the research. Knowledge institutions take on the role of lead partners.

Process

The call for proposals for Power of Design & Transitions onsists of two phases. In the first phase, project teams submit a project idea. After this, a selection is made of five high-quality project ideas that complement each other. In the second phase, this selection then develops their idea into a complete project plan. CLICKNL offers support in the form of funding for networking events, sparring sessions with the programme council and guidance from the programme team.
