The EKOO: Circular Economy scheme (also known as KIA CE) supports collaborations between companies and research organizations working on circular products, processes, and services. This grant specifically targets innovations that contribute to the sustainability of sectors such as manufacturing, construction, and consumer goods, and strengthens the circular economy in the Netherlands.

In addition to this scheme, there are two other EKOO grants aimed at stimulating circular innovation: EKOO: Circular Plastics and EKOO: Biobased Circular. It is important to assess in advance which scheme best matches your project.

Who is this grant for?
The EKOO grant is aimed at temporary partnerships between companies and research organizations working on circular innovations within three key sectors:

  • Manufacturing: Innovations in the production of capital goods, such as machinery, wind turbines, solar panel systems, electrolysers, and batteries for light electric vehicles.
  • Construction and infrastructure: Circular solutions for homes, offices, concrete structures such as bridges and viaducts, and road surfaces.
  • Consumer goods: From electrical appliances and furniture to textiles and packaging, with a focus on circular design principles.

What are the grant conditions?
To be eligible for the EKOO grant, your project must meet a number of conditions:

  • The project must fall within one of the mentioned sectors and offer a concrete circular solution.
  • The innovation must be market-ready by 2035. The application must clearly demonstrate feasibility and likelihood of success, supported by a detailed project plan, market analysis, risk assessment, and financial plan.
  • The project must start within six months after approval of the grant application and may run for a maximum of two years.
  • All consortium partners must be financially sound and not in difficulty.
