CU in Court
Moot courts are essential for law students to develop legal reasoning and presentation skills. But opportunities for practice are limited — time, supervision, and physical space are scarce. The CU in Court project is developing a virtual courtroom using CAVE technology (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment), allowing students to practise their pleadings as often as needed, with real-time feedback.
In this highly realistic VR setting, sensors track body language, vocal delivery, and argumentation structure. Based on this data, the system provides immediate, AI-driven feedback tailored to the student's individual learning needs. This enables personalised, scalable legal training — without increasing the workload for faculty staff.
The project brings together legal expertise with design, AI, and data analysis. The CAVE setup at the DAF Technology Lab offers a physical space where students can move naturally, engage with virtual opponents and judges, and simulate courtroom interaction more realistically than generic VR tools allow.
