The Green Constructure: a living lab within Van Gogh Homeland in Tilburg

In the autumn of 2026, The Green Constructure will appear in Tilburg’s Spoorzone: a temporary green structure that forms part of Van Gogh Homeland, a public programme addressing major sustainability challenges. The Green Constructure serves as an experimental environment where design, imagination and urban issues come together.

The structure — designed by architect Winy Maas (MVRDV), who also curates the programme — takes the form of a multi-level green oasis filled with trees, shrubs and plants. Visitors move along a “green sky walk” past pop-up exhibitions and art installations that explore themes such as urban greening, heat stress and future-proof living environments in an experiential way. The structure invites people to wander, observe and discover new perspectives.

Within Van Gogh Homeland, The Green Constructure functions as a living lab: a temporary experiment that explores how the leisure domain can contribute to awareness and public support for regional transitions. In addition to the outdoor structure, the Wagenmakerij hosts further programming, including exhibitions and performances. After the project ends, it will leave a lasting mark on the city, as the vegetation is redistributed across public squares, parks and green spaces in Tilburg.

The first edition of Van Gogh Homeland takes place in September and October 2026 and offers space for contributions from residents, visitors, artists, students and partner organisations, with Tilburg acting as the host city.
