Open call Creative Industries Fund NL: Chronically Healthy

The Creative Industries Fund NL and the Agis Innovation Fund are launching a joint open call aimed at improving everyday life for people with a chronic disorder. New or existing coalitions of municipalities, healthcare providers, welfare organizations, private initiators, entrepreneurs and people with a disorder are invited to work with designers on new products, spatial interventions or health concepts to strengthen the self-management of people in their everyday living environment. The working method involves design research, which is carried out by interdisciplinary teams in close collaboration with the people for whom the initiative must make a difference.

Chronically ill? So what! This is how it should be: lead a pleasant life with or without a chronic disorder. In the Netherlands there are more and more people who have a chronic condition. Good medical care is available for them in the Netherlands. But a person is more than his or her illness. And in order to be able to live the most pleasant life possible with a disorder, solutions other than medical ones can also offer support.

Which design proposals or strategies make it possible for people to be more in control when it comes to their health? How can the living environment be better tailored to the needs of people with a chronic disorder? What role does the social network play? How do we arrive at new health concepts in which the needs and possibilities of people with a chronic disorder are taken (even more) as a starting point?

When we take the personal needs of people as a starting point in answering these questions, this offers numerous new possibilities. But that often requires thinking and acting differently. Designers - such as (interior) architects, product designers, social designers or digital makers - can play an important role in this through their creative and people-oriented approach. They have the opportunity to introduce new methods and ways of thinking, and to arrive at solutions in co-creation that better meet the (personal) needs of people.

The Creative Industries Fund NL and the Agis Innovation Fund call on designers to submit a proposal for design research together with parties from the care and welfare sectors on (one of) the design assignments below.

Design Task 1: directing yourself in everyday life
Everyone, including someone with a chronic disorder, is happy to lead his / her life in their own way. Which products, spatial interventions or social strategies can we use in the immediate vicinity to strengthen their direction, autonomy and self-sufficiency? How do we support people in carrying out activities that they themselves consider important? And how do we make optimum use of the possibilities and talents of the people themselves?

Design Task 2: Strengthening Togetherness
For many, an active social life also contributes to the feeling of well-being. A healthy living environment with attractive places where social networks can thrive can contribute to this. Through (new) opportunities to meet each other, networks become larger and stronger. Who helps figure out spatial and social interventions to stimulate social networks and to strengthen the community's resilience?

Design Task 3: people-oriented health concepts
The Netherlands has a reliable health care system that makes a lot possible and contributes to our health. How do we arrive at new health concepts in which the needs and possibilities of people with a disorder are taken (even more) as a starting point? How can we strengthen the management of (care) professionals, informal caregivers and people with a disorder within this system, so that their values, knowledge, skills and experiences are used optimally?

Submit
You can submit a proposal up to and including 4 February 2020 via the online application environment of the Creative Industries Fund NL. For more information, visit their website.
