New speakers DRIVE 2023
DRIVE adds three speakers to its 2023 edition. The Design Research & Innovation Festival taking place from Oct. 23 - 27 thus provides the stage for 12 design pioneers. And the number continues to rise!
- Carlo de Gaetano - Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences | Tuesday 24-10
- Siet Sijtsema - Wageningen University & Research | Wednesday 25-10
- Tomasz Jaskiewicz - Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences | Thursday 26-10
In his talk, Carlo de Gaetano (Hogeschool van Amsterdam) introduces the "Urban Belonging" project, which aims to increase citizen involvement in urban planning in Copenhagen. This is done by paying specific attention to the views of diverse communities, such as LGBTQ+ individuals and ethnic minorities. Discover the input of the project's participants and the results that emerged.
Siet Sijtsema (Wageningen University & Research) will share within this talk her experiences with and insights from consumer studies on circular initiatives related to food, biobased materials and textiles. To support behavior change, it is necessary to better understand consumer perceptions about the circular economy and come up with acceptable products and communications. But how do you achieve this? Siet provides several examples of co-creation sessions where designers and consumer researchers joined forces, and shares challenges for future studies.
The common characteristic of autonomous robots is that they are often driven by commercial interests, with little regard for the needs of local people. The Cities of Things Lab 010 has turned this around. They have developed an affordable kit that can be used to build neighborhood robots, affectionately called "neighborhood bots". Working with Rotterdam residents, they have designed several prototypes of these neighborhood bots and explored how they can support civic initiatives and integrate them into local communities. Tomasz Jaskiewicz (Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences) will talk about this.
