KIEM GOCI AWARDS 19 PROJECTS

With the KIEM GoCI scheme, the Taskforce for Applied Research SIA is stimulating 1-year exploratory studies in which designers, makers and creative organisations collaborate with Dutch knowledge institutions within the context of social issues. All applications from the 3rd and final collection moment of the 2020-2021 submission round have recently been assessed. 19 projects have been awarded funding.

The role of the creative industries is growing

The current coalition agreement underlines the growing role of the creative industries in social issues. ‘The government plans to structurally invest €170 million in the creative and cultural sector and to involve the creative sector more in social issues. With the projects that have been awarded funding, the GoCI programme is already showing the potential of that involvement,’ says Wietske van den Heuvel, programme manager at Taskforce for Applied Research SIA. A logical next step is a new KIEM GoCI round: KIEM GoCI 2022-2023. It will open in April. The budget is made available by CLICKNL and SIA.

‘CLICKNL is happy to contribute to this new round again’, says Bart Ahsmann, director of CLICKNL. ‘The KIEM GoCI scheme offers creative professionals the opportunity to tackle knowledge questions with universities of applied sciences and universities. They can gain insights in practice, for example around influencing behaviour or participation, and research new methodologies. This knowledge is important for the creative industries, so that they can continue to respond to current and future challenges.’
