The innovation labs were launched via a closed live stream by Minister of Education, Culture and Science Ingrid van Engelshoven, director Creative Industries Fund NL Syb Groeneveld, AV Industry consultant Renée van der Grinten, head of Research and Heritage at Sound and Vision Johan Oomen, director of Dutch Design Foundation Martijn Paulen and director CLICKNL Bart Ahsmann.

The aim of these labs is to be able to provide the sector with new working methods and revenue models to help the sector be more agile and resilient to the Covid-19 pandemic in the future.

Minister Van Engelshoven is making €5 million available for the innovation labs (including implementation costs) on the advice of the Council for Culture. As far as possible, the available resources will come from (makers') projects and for implementation of the results in urban cultural regions.

From the end of August, open calls can be expected for every innovation lab for which project proposals can be announced by the broad cultural and creative sector. An independent committee will select 3 to 6 proposals per innovation lab in November 2021. Several information meetings will be organised at the end of June.
