The progressive roll of the Netherlands in the field of 3D printing is well-known, but in 2017 the Netherlands can even call itself the first country with a 3D printed bridge. The Dutch start-up MX3D is going to make the steel bridge in collaboration with among others, Heijmans. The ambition is to make robots print the bridge on location. The bridge’s location will be announced by MX3D and the municipality of Amsterdam soon. From September 2015 you can follow the progress of the project in the visitor centre. 3D printing a bridge should offer new possibilities in the field of design, material, logistics and safety. Watch the video below to get an impression of the project.
About AMS-3D Building Field Lab The Amsterdam Institute for advanced metropolitan solutions (AMS) is a new ambitious scientific institute located in Amsterdam. In this institute science, education, government, business partners and societal organisations are working tightly together to create solutions for the complex challenges a metropolitan region like Amsterdam is facing. AMS is an initiative of TU Delft, Wageningen University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and partners. In the AMS-3D Building Field Lab, that has to be set up soon, experts will bring together digital technology, robotics and traditional industrial production in the MX3D Bridge project. The experts research the construction site of the future, test and share their knowledge within the AMS-3D Building Field Lab.
