Behavioural change in the context of transitions

NWO: Call Transitions and Behaviour

As a society, we face a large number of challenges in areas such as mobility, climate change, healthcare and sustainable energy. In tackling these challenges, it is important to strike a balance between technology and society. Besides technological developments, human activity is also a significant determinant in the chances of the necessary transitions succeeding, whereby due consideration must also be given to the possible side effects of changes that can hinder the transition desired. That's why the call "Transitions and Behaviour" focuses specifically on research into behaviour and behavioural change that makes transitions possible and accelerates these.

The aim of this call is to encourage interdisciplinary research into behaviour and behavioural change in transitions. The research agenda for this programme focuses specifically on the transition issues identified by the various top sectors. For example, the research could focus on questions such as: ‘Which role does the deployment of behavioural change play in making logistics more environmentally friendly?’, or ‘How can entrepreneurs realise more sustainable behaviour in relation to energy?’. In this way, the research will provide a contribution to the societal and economic development of the Netherlands in general and the various participating top sectors in particular.
