Call: Challenges for designers in the age of AI?

The digital future is changing rapidly and the emergence of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence raises questions about the impact on the work of designers and design researchers. While these developments are already widely discussed within scientific and professional communities, knowledge platform NADR focuses on the practical implications for the design world.

In the coming months, NADR is organizing several meetings to explore the impact of digital innovations such as AI with designers, researchers and practitioners. But before the meetings kick off, NADR is calling on you to share your insights and challenges related to AI and other technologies. What questions preoccupy designers and design researchers? How are new technologies affecting their work and what does it mean for the future of design?

The Call

NADR asks you to submit a short memo (150–300 words) in which you describe the questions and challenges designers and design researchers are facing in this area. Deadline: Friday 28 March 2025. Please submit your memo through Easychair (https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=nadr25). Submit your memo in English.

Knowledge sessions

What's on the agenda. NADR is organizing a series of knowledge sessions, including a kick-off workshop on April 02 (Utrecht), followed by two live working sessions on June 10 and October 20. The meetings provide a platform to share knowledge and collectively seek answers to questions such as:

  • What challenges do designers face regarding the use of AI and other rapidly emerging digital developments?
  • What does AI mean for the profession of designers and design researchers?
  • What are the opportunities and threats of AI for designers?
  • What is the value of creativity when anyone can generate 1,000 ideas at the touch of a button?
  • How can AI support rather than replace human creativity in design?
  • What is the unique added value of designers when computers can do everything faster, better and more efficiently?

Discover the knowledge sessions in our agenda.

Would you like to contribute and participate in the sessions? Then sign up and send your memo by March 28.
