CONSTRUCTION GETS OPEN SOURCE KNOWLEDGE PLATFORM THANKS TO MKB IDEE

With the help of MKB Idee, Bouwmensen Nijmegen and Muller Bouw from Oss are developing an open source knowledge platform for construction, which can soon be used throughout the Netherlands. ‘Thanks to MKB Idee, we are now working together with similar parties and we are taking the platform to a much higher level’, says Geert Robben of Bouwmensen Nijmegen.

That open source platform is badly needed. Ambitions such as sustainability and circular economy require different knowledge and skills from professionals in the construction industry. Many have no idea yet how to keep their knowledge up to date and are not likely to ask others to do so. The platform removes these obstacles and offers practical tools so that employees can continue to learn and develop at their workplace.

Further education and training
The platform is provided with up-to-date professional knowledge from the regional business community and makes learning material from educational institutions accessible. You can follow e-learning modules, but you can also look up what you need to know when you need to perform a certain action. Construction workers develop, fill and use the platform and it is suitable for (extra) training in regular education.

Deepening and acceleration
‘All 3 of us want to increase the accessibility of knowledge, develop learning modules and conduct research into the learning culture in the construction sector. Our joining of forces means that we now have more money to invest, that our reach expands and that we move the knowledge platform to a higher level. Developing high-quality learning modules is expensive. Now we have the opportunity to do so.’

In this way, working together ensures that we make a much better product.

The testing phase with the first learning modules will start around the end of 2020. The platform is expected to be completely ready and in use in June 2021.
