VPRO Tegenlicht Meet Up - Future Fashion
__The fashion and clothing industry has developed into a terrible system of ‘Fast Fashion’. The production time between the catwalks in Paris, London and Milan and the clothes racks of big chains like H&M and Zara is only getting smaller. Each year 100 billion new items of clothing are produced, of which a third is never worn. __
How do we make the fashion industry future proof? What is the role of the re-use of clothing? Can we make clothes from recycled materials and new fabrics out of plastic and plants? New technology forces us to look at the way we dress in a different light as well. Are we moving towards a future where we can wear an item of clothing that changes based on our mood, fixes itself and never needs to be washed?
VPRO Tegenlicht and Pakhuis de Zwijger are looking for Future Fashion pioneers, designers that have an idea to tackle the polluting, anti-social fashion industry. Through this meet-up, we are going to research how we can change the Fast Fashion chain entirely, so we can go from an industry that depends on exploitation to an industry that depends on honest cooperations.
You can vote for the Future Fashion Pioneers from 3 to 10 December at the latest. The five finalists are selected by website visitors and an expert jury. After that they can pitch their project on the Pakhuis de Zwijger stage and introduce it to the audience. The week after the show, the makers and other relevant guests related to the theme will discuss the documentary based on excerpts from the show.
The evening is free. For more information and for reservations, check the De Zwijger website.
