PONT | Designing for societal impact

Are you a creative maker, thinker, or designer who wants to make a societal impact? During Dutch Design Week 2025, De Publieke Ontwerppraktijk (PONT) hosts a session on designing within a public context. Because a good idea doesn’t automatically lead to change — to make real impact, you also need to understand how policy and decision-making work.

In this session, you’ll discover how design and government can strengthen each other. What does it mean to design within a world of rules, structures, and political realities? And how can you ensure your ideas are actually implemented?

You’ll get a sneak preview of the new online learning program Public Administration for Designers, designed to help creative professionals collaborate more effectively with government partners. Expect concrete case studies, personal stories, and a roundtable discussion with experts on the role of design in driving societal change.

What to expect

  • An introduction to designing within the public sector
  • Case studies such as the Bouwdepot, where designers collaborate with municipalities
  • Personal stories from designers on how they’ve found their way within government
  • A roundtable discussion with André Schaminée, Suzanne Potjer, Hanna Blomaard, and Lotte Vergouwen on how designers can increase their impact

Whether you’re just starting out or already have experience working with public organizations, this session offers insight, and practical tools to strengthen your impact.

This event will be held in Dutch.
