(No)thing to wear

OPA in collaboration with State of Fashion presents: a night of sustainable fashion. Due to fast fashion, clothing has become a disposable item. How can we make this polluting industry more sustainable? How many things do we really need to wear? And what criteria do we put on the clothing that we wear? We researched with concrete steps designers and labels from Arnhem are taking to change the current system of fashion.

Elsien Gringhuis
Fashion designer Elsien Gringhuis follows her own rhythm: her label has a year-round collection, and all clothing items are deliverable for as long as the relevant fabric is available. All clothing is produced in the Netherlands and made to order. What is her vision on the essence of fashion?

Sjaak Hullekes
Fashion designer Sjaak Hullekes is launching a new label to give clothing a longer life. Made with antique fabrics or leftovers from the fashion industry, produced in his own atelier in Arnhem and each with their own unique passports, items of clothing can be returned after use, so they can be used to make a new item. Is cherishing clothing a good antidote against fast fashion?

Karin Vlug
Fashion designer Karin Vlug won the 2014 Frans Molenaar Couture Award with her One Square Fits All collection. Since then she has been researching and developing innovative ways to make the fashion industry more sustainable, such as an endless wardrobe with her DIY-collection COLLECT and 3D printed clothing without leftover materials or complicated workmanship. Is Smart Fashion Production the future?
