CROSS MEDIA CAFÉ: ONLINE RADIO & PODCAST

Traditional radio isn’t going anywhere, but more and more people are listening to online radio and podcasts. In the Netherlands there are more and more “internet only” stations and the number of podcast listeners is growing daily. It is also becoming more and more accessible to make radio and podcasts and the niche stations manage to reach their audiences online.

On Tuesday 4 September, Media Perspectives and Beeld en Geluid are organizing a special meeting about online radion and podcast during the Dutch Media Week. In the Cross Media Café you will get an overview of all earning models, success stories and the latest developments, all in one afternoon. This edition will have presentations from Wilbert Mutsaers (Spotify) and Lindsday Mossink (Nu.nl), amongst others.

Programme
• Annick van der Leeuw, Editor-in-Chief Podcast BNR Nieuwsradio. At the end of 2016, BNR launched the BNR Expert Podcast Network, a collection of the best business podcasts in the Netherlands. Now, BNR has its own podcast studio and podcasts play an important role in the company’s “audio first” strategy. What is their vision for the future?
• Herbert Codee, Owner Audiolane, Host of De Radio Podcast and product manager EO. Herbert Codee is an active developer of audio services outside of his work for EO and the host of De Radio Podcast – the podcast for everyone that wants to follow the latest developments in this area.
• Lindsay Mossink, Chef redactie NU.nl, incl. Nu.nl Podcasts. In 2017, NU.nl started the first daily news podcast in the Netherlands, “Dit wordt het nieuws” that is ready every morning at 6 am. “DeweekvanNUtech” and “Aftrappen” have been added to the list. What are the experiences?
• Wilbert Mutsaers, Head of Benelux, Spotify. Lots of platforms are adding podcast options to their offering at the moment. With 3.3 million users, Spotify is the market leader for audio in the Netherlands. How does the company envision the changes in podcasts and the online radio market?
• Yordi Yamali and Peter Buurman, created the Podcast Neutral Spectators together. A World cup without the Netherlands? The soccer podcast Neutral Spectators took their listeners along on the World cup journey without the Netherlands, with match reports and more.
• Michiel Veenstra is a DJ for 3FM, vlogger on YouTube and podcaster at D-tales, a Dutch podcast about anything related to Disney. What can Michiel tell us about the relationship with the podcast audience?
• ‘The Radio Project’ is an initiative by the media companies YPCA, De Radiofabriek and Radiocoach, all from Hilversum, that have the goal of developing young multimedia talent in a unique way. A group of young people between the ages of 16 and 21 are building thé radio station of the future. During the CMC we meet the talents and their first ideas.

From 5 pm: Award ceremony Online Radio Awards
After the Cross Media Café, the Online Radio Awards will be presented at the Mediastad Hilversum. This initiative has made it possible that for the first time in Dutch radio history, prizes will be awarded to “internet only” radio makers. The Online Radio Awards in an initiative of the Verenigde-Online Radiostations and Spreekbuis.nl
