The new Crossover Works, launched during Dutch Design Week, is the third publication about the very special collaboration between the creative industries and other top sectors. Who are the game changers of this moment? What discoveries have they made? And where can these lead us?

Thinking differently, that’s what designers are masters at. It does not make them the easiest people but they are certainly inventive. And that is something we can use to tackle the problems faced by our society and economy. This third part of Crossover Works provides examples of the special collaborations that are happening now between the creative industries and the other top sectors. Projects that have led to nice discoveries that help society that little bit more: from games and toilets that save lives to denim jeans that clean the sea.

CLICKNL, Dutch Creative Council, Federation of Dutch Creative Industries, Chamber of Commerce and the Creative Industries Incentive Fund want to show in this series what the added value of design can be. It is not only illustrated with successful cases but also with a number of in-depth essays in which professionals consider major questions. How can creativity and thinking differently enhance awareness and sustainability? What are the developments and trends in wearables? How can we deal with the elements and anticipate natural disasters? These are all challenges that cry out for the crossover mentality that this book wants to promote.
