Call 2 | Power of Design & Transitions

How can the creative industry, through the development of interventions and applications, contribute more effectively to enabling change, guiding change, and accelerating transitions?

This round focuses on projects that conduct design-based research, in which a knowledge question from design practice is central.

The research involves developing interventions for transitions, while at the same time developing knowledge that helps to improve design for change. Think of designs to open up people's attitudes to change, designs based on public values with the application of new technologies, or the design of environments that motivate specific behavior. Or coherent interventions that reinforce each other's impact within tasks such as care, sustainability, and safety.

This round offers two project teams the opportunity to carry out a design-based research project. A total of €3,250,000 in subsidies is available for this second call for proposals. Five collaborative projects will start between June and December 2026 within this call. Each project can receive a maximum subsidy of €650,000. Mandatory private co-financing of at least 20% applies.

Project team & role assignment

A project team includes at least

  • a knowledge institution (college, university or TO2),
  • three creative industry companies (SMEs),
  • one private company and
  • there is always a problem owner connected.

These teammembers act as equal partners in the design and execution of the research. Knowledge institutions take on the role of lead partners.

Process

The call for proposals for Power of Design & Transitions II consists of two phases. In the first phase, project teams submit a project idea. After this, a selection is made of five high-quality project ideas that complement each other. In the second phase, this selection then develops their idea into a complete project plan. CLICKNL offers support in the form of funding for networking events, sparring sessions with the programme council and guidance from the programme team.
