What is CIIIC Kern?
CIIIC Kern is a funding scheme for demand-driven, practice-oriented research into immersive experiences (IX). The scheme is implemented by the Taskforce for Applied Research SIA and is part of the National Growth Fund programme Creative Industries Immersive Impact Coalition (CIIIC).
Projects focus on testing and validating methods for IX applications, with the aim of enabling responsible, scalable and effective use in SMEs and the public sector. Within project teams, SMEs, public organisations and research institutions collaborate on research that supports the practical deployment of immersive solutions in real-world contexts.
What do projects focus on?
Projects explore how IX methods can be applied and substantiated in practice. This includes, among other things:
- safeguarding public values such as privacy and accessibility
- identifying the conditions for responsible use of IX within organisations
- validating IX methods for specific application domains
The aim is to make immersive applications more meaningful and to contribute to societal and economic impact.
Who is this for?
CIIIC Core is intended for project teams involving:
- researchers from universities of applied sciences and research universities conducting practice-oriented IX research
- immersive creators seeking to underpin their working methods and approaches with research
- public organisations (such as healthcare, education, culture and municipalities) aiming to deploy IX solutions
Grant applications can only be submitted by researchers affiliated with a higher education institution. Project partners are required to jointly contribute 50% of the total project costs.
Information session
An online information session will take place on 2 February 2026, providing an overview of the scheme, with room for questions and pitching project ideas.
