Open call: Innofest X SIA 2022

Together with Innofest, Taskforce for Applied Research SIA gives researchers from universities of applied sciences the opportunity to test their prototype or conduct an experiment at a festival or in a living lab. This way, they want to stimulate research and entrepreneurship at universities of applied sciences and draw attention to the results of practice-oriented research. Apply before 1 March, 2022!

Festival as living lab
Innofest uses festivals as living labs for innovation. A festival is a temporary mini-society and - just like in real life - challenges can be found here in areas such as energy, waste, logistics, water and food.

This makes festivals the perfect place to test prototypes, implement them and get a lot of feedback in a short time. An additional advantage: participating in a festival also gives you and your research a lot of visibility and a larger network.

In 2021, hardly any festivals could be organised. Nevertheless, tests have been done. For example, at a campsite on Vlieland and the cultural meeting place Berlijnplein in Utrecht. In 2022, Innofest will continue to use living labs as a test location. And of course festivals, where possible.

Financing of test
Are you a researcher and do you want to test a result from your research with a team? Then you can use Innofest X SIA to apply for funding for, for example, preparing such a test, further developing prototypes and conducting experiments at a festival or in a living lab. You can apply for a maximum of €10,000.

Guidance by Innofest
In addition to €10,000, teams receive 3 lessons from Innofest prior to testing. This will prepare your team for performing the tests at a festival or living lab. This allows the teams to achieve optimal results with their tests.

Rating
After the pre-proposal with motivation, the jury will invite the most promising applications for an online pitch meeting on 15 April. That afternoon, you can further explain your application to the selection committee.

The committee judges on the basis of these criteria:

  • The festival/living lab is a logical testing ground and offers added value to the project.
  • The project is a result, interim result, or experiment from practice-oriented research.
  • The project concerns an innovation that contributes to a more sustainable and social world.
  • The project team brings a convincing story that contributes to translating practice-oriented research to a wider audience
