NEW INNOVATION COMPETITION: DESIGN SOLUTIONS FOR INSULATION OF MONUMENTAL BUILDINGS WANTED

Are you an entrepreneur in the creative/innovative sector? And do you have knowledge of or affinity with making (monumental) buildings more sustainable? The Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) is challenging you to develop insulation solutions for monumental buildings in the Netherlands. These solutions contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions by monumental buildings in an innovative and aesthetic way.

Monumental values often pose quite some challenges when making monumental buildings more sustainable. Because of this, making monuments more sustainable is almost always custom work. Monumental values entail:

• detailed wall finishes.
• profiled stucco ceilings.
• richly decorated windows.
• a special roof construction.

The challenge in insulating monumental buildings
The challenge in insulating historic buildings is to preserve the perception of an old building. When historical materials of old buildings are replaced and adapted, little remains of the sensory experience of materials where the test of time and the traces of use – the patina – are still visible. Examples include replacing the historic windows with insulating glass, placing a retaining wall in front of the facades and replacing the ground floor with a concrete floor with underfloor heating.

Duration of assignment
The duration of the assignment is from July 2022 to July 2024. As an entrepreneur, it is important that you have the motivation to make a success of your innovation. This also means that you will continue if the SBIR funding stops.
